Our Philosophy

A Serious Divers Resource

If you’ve ever searched for diving gear reviews before, you no doubt came across dozens of sites that look just like this: a grid of 10-20 of the same gear, their basic features listed, a “rating” of 90-100% or 4-5 stars, and an editorial review.

You might’ve already realized these aren’t real reviews. These sites are run by affiliate marketers, being paid directly by web hosts or indirectly through affiliate referral programs. They write their own positive reviews of every bit of kit, without ever having used it, just so that you’ll pick one of their listings and click through to the host’s site to buy. When you do, they get paid for the referral.

Divers Reviews is different. We believe the best way to choose new gear is to research it first, starting with what people who already own the gear are saying. All our reviews are submitted by our visitors, just like you, who want to share their experience. You get the good and the bad experiences so that you can make your own decision.

Gear is Ordered by Customer Ratings

Most review lists order their lists of gear by how much each company is paying per referral to maximize their income. That means all their lists are almost identical, showing you the same names over and over, even if the companies provide poor support, service and features.

Our reviews are ordered by weighted customer rating. That means gear with a 5-star rating by a single reviewer won’t automatically go to the top of the list, but one with numerous reviews well above the average will. The more reviews customers submit about a peace if kit, the more we trust the ratings to be accurate and allow it to move up the ranks.

Unbiased Reviews

To avoid being influenced by any supplier  we will accept no attempts by suppliers to pay us to have their site listed higher, or to remove negative reviews. We do add referral IDs to the links to the hosts’ sites, if the host has a referral program. This allows us to earn revenue to develop and maintain the website for you, however, we allow you to review whatever gear you’ve used, even if the suppliers don’t have a referral program.

We Need Your Support

Since Diving Reviews isn’t run the same way most “equipment review” sites are run, controlled by advertising partners and maximizing affiliate commissions, we can’t afford to pay $5 per click or more to advertise on search engines like they do.

If you’ve found our customer reviews of diving gear useful, and want to help us out in return, tell your friends about this site. Link to it on your website or blog, mention it on your Facebook or MySpace, and recommend us whenever someone you know needs kit. Thank you for your support!
